1. SUBMARINE-(2010)

Directed byRichard Ayoade
Date of release-18 March 2011 (UK)

2. IMDB, Google search and the DVD case

These are some of the screenshot websites that I found     about Submarine fan sites. These include Facebook, Twitter and a review of the film.

4.  'Submarine' is a wonderfully engaging film. Along with being very funny, it genuinely understands and insightfully explores teen anxiety and communication/perception troubles. While watching it, I felt like I was experiencing the story first hand. As a result of an artfully made, appealing and enjoyable experience, the film gently implies a progressive and positive message. The film is for both sexes as it has all three genre categories which fall into being Comedy Drama and Romance. The film addresses the audience by using a variety of methods such as posters, adverts and although it didn’t light up the box office in the US, the low-budget efforts have seemingly found success on platforms like Netflix Instant and now two of their respective leads have teamed for a new feature.
1.  Shank (2010)
Directed by- Mo Ali
Date of release26 March 2010 (UK)

2. IMDB

4. The film ‘Shank’ attracts a boy’s audience because some scenes involve violence in the sense of murder, moreover it is an action and sci-fi film. In my opinion I believe this will make people aged 15 to 18 interested.  The opening scene is duly lit and atmospheric however it does not get properly into the story for at least half an hour as it makes people want to carry on watching. The music that was used is intense but contrasting in various scenes throughout, something that the target market would listen to and something they would like. This national film which attracts audiences, especially the males as Kaya Scolderio is one of the featured actresses in the film, who has appeared as the flirtatious sex symbol in the TV series ‘Skins’, which could appeal to men who would want to see her fiery personality in character. The film is addressed by using interaction on the internet with a site specifically on the film, to which you can listen to the soundtrack and get to know more about the characters.

1. The King's Speech (2010)

4. "The King's Speech" will still ultimately be a box office success: It has made $136.6 million domestically and over $230 million internationally. In Great Britain, the film has made more than £70 million, "The King's Speech" is recommended for audiences 12-and-over.Posters are another part of the marketing campaign designed to introduce an audience to the film. Displayed in cinemas, bus stops, and tube and railway stations or on billboards they are designed to catch the eye and convey range of information to attract the viewer.

What is the BBFC?
Description: http://www.parentport.org.uk/binaries/content/gallery/parentport/logos-padding/bbfc-logo-pantone-3005.gif
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is an independent, non-governmental body. We’ve classified cinema films since 1912, videos/DVDs and some video games since 1984.

Protecting children
The BBFC classifies films, videos/DVDs and some video games, advertisements and trailers according to its Classification Guidelines, with ratings ranging from ‘U’ for Universal to ‘R18’.
All classification decisions are based on our regularly updated Guidelines, which are the product of extensive public consultation, research and the accumulated experience of the BBFC over many years.
Everyone is welcome to take part in the Guidelines consultation, which takes place every four years.
In the most recent consultation, there were views of over 8,700 members of the public on classification – including issues such as language, discrimination, violence, sex and drugs in films, DVDs and video games, parental concerns about younger viewers and recent BBFC decisions. The Guidelines also take into account the various UK laws the BBFC must apply when making classification decisions.
The BBFC also commissions research into particular classification issues (such as the portrayal of suicide in films or the public’s attitudes to discriminatory language) which inform BBFC policy.

Film Distribution
Distribution is the highly competitive business of launching and sustaining films in the market place.
UK film distributors alone spend around £300 million a year on bringing new releases to market, and building awareness and interest among audiences. It's a fast-moving, highly competitive, high-stakes business.
In our lesson we looked at how film distributors effectively use P&A to draw in targeted audiences to recent releases. The poster design is highly effective in 'packaging' the key characteristics of a film for potential audiences. Distributors will also consider other poster campaigns, ranging from underground advertising to billboards and advertising in magazines, national and local newspapers, work with press editing coverage to raise awareness of a release. In order to extend the reach of advertising and develop more effective communication with audiences at low cost, distributors are looking increasingly to 'viral marketing' - different forms of electronic word-of-mouth via the internet, email and mobile phones.
We also observed the posters of recent releases such as, ‘Skyfall’  ‘The Hunt’ ‘Great Expectations’ and identified that all had review star ratings from well-known newspapers. This captured audience’s attentions because the advertisements included quotes, captions and well-known actors appearing on the face of the poster, which appeals to audiences because an actor they admire from previous films is starring in a new role which encourages viewers to watch their new film.

In class we looked at a new app called ‘Aurasma’, this shows film distributors are beginning to use different methods of advertising by using more interaction with audiences. We did this by holding an iPhone (IPhone’s will only work with this app) over any advertising campaign (in this case Channel 4, The Fear) that has the Aurasma symbol, then a short preview will run of your acquired film. The application is free to download and it is the way you see and interact with the world today.

In class, we watched The Hobbit trailer 10 days in advance of its release. In the trailer, this included well-known faces; such as actors Ian McKellen from The Lord Of The Rings and Love Actually Martin Freeman. Film distributors purposely do this to increase attraction to the film, moreover by playing a noticeable soundtrack this will reconcile the mind into a Lord Of The Rings atmosphere.  The Hobbit also creates a particular vision of England, which connects with us as the home audience when watching the trailer. The enchanting forests, unbeatable countryside, and the spectacular visual effects like the effortless waterfall will attract further audiences to enjoy this experience.

Peter Jackson and other directors of Hollywood are playing ‘safe’ because they know films in the area of heroic venture and unexpected journeys which are prequels and sequels will sell.
